What to Do on a Luxury Maldives Holiday

One of the main things to do on a luxury holiday in the Maldives is, of course, nothing. With some of the most beautiful scenery on earth, long, hot days and luxurious accommodation, the one thing you will want to make sure to do is relax.

But there is plenty to fill your days, one of which could go something like this. Wake from your deep and restful sleep to the sound of the nearby ocean. Enjoy a relaxed breakfast of fresh local produce brought to the balcony of your room. Recline on the white sand beach before taking a dip in the cool blue waters of the ocean.

Here you may be enticed by the large number of exotic underwater creatures and decide you want to embark on a snorkelling or diving trip. This is something not to be missed, but maybe save it for another day - after all you don't want to overdo it; you are on holiday after all.

Take advantage of the beach service from your hotel and order a light tropical lunch with fresh juice from the comfort your sunlounger, followed by a snooze in a hammock under a palm tree.

In the afternoon, get picked up by a state of the art jeep and whisked into the interior of the island. Explore the lush green vegetation and perhaps spot some exotic animals on a gentle hike through the forest, learning about local plants and wildlife escorted by a knowledgeable local guide.

If you are feeling particularly energetic and adventurous, you could jump in a private speed-boat for a visit to a neighbouring island for a change of scene. After all, each of the thousand or so islands that make up the Maldives is unique.

Perhaps visit a small settlement and soak up some authentic local life, enjoying a coffee in the 'town' high street. You will find the resident population welcoming and fascinating - after all they are made up of a wonderful mix of Muslims, Buddhists, Portuguese and Dutch. Don't miss an opportunity to buy some special, home made crafts to take home as a fitting souvenir.

By now it will be approaching sunset and you will be hankering for the comfort of your luxury hotel or villa. Return in time for an indulgent spa treatment or massage that will leave you feeling revitalised and relaxed. Then have a snooze before dinner. You deserve it: after all it's been a busy day.

Sip on a sun-downer at a beachside bar - perhaps a tropical cocktail or a refreshing beer. This is the time when the slow pace of the Maldives becomes even slower, as the locals wind down in preparation for the following day.

Dinner can be had at your hotel, or at a nearby local restaurant. Enjoy superb service and the best in local and international cuisine - after all you have chosen a luxury holiday. Often you can enjoy traditional entertainment at your table perhaps with some live regional music.

After your fine dining, a stroll along the sands looking up at the star-studded night sky would make a fitting end to the day. Return to your hotel for a nightcap and that comfortable bed, blissful in the knowledge that you have had an enjoyable, action-packed day and another one awaits you tomorrow.
